Roxbury Pickin N' Fiddlin Contest Rules

1. Registration for each category ends when the previous category begins playing.

2. All contestants must be ready to play when the category starts and follow directions of the backstage manager, or be disqualified.

3. The judges shall clear any questions. The judges decisions are final.

4. Performances judged on clarity of tune, quality of tone, dynamics and originality.

5. Vocals are not judged, except during the vocal category.

6. Sets are THREE minutes MAXIMUM.

7. Trick and Fancy Category judged on showmanship first, musical performance second.

8. Medleys shall NOT exceed TWO consecutive tunes, no break in between.

9. NO electric instruments are allowed, except bass.

10. Hook up for electric bass shall be provided.

11. Youth and senior categories shall be selected from all categories except band.

12. No one is allowed on stage while players are performing.

13. Bands must be three or more players. Players, except bass, can play in no more than two bands.

Bands will play in between instrument categories. Playoff will be at the end of the last category. No substitute players.

We decided to kick it up a notch for our 50th!

Join us after the main contest for a vocal contest, a friendly battle of the bands, and a very special guest band to keep the bluegrass party going through the evening!

Battle of the Bands

• Bands with 2-6 members

• All musicians must provide their own instruments, microphones and basic sound system provided

• Bands should perform music consistent with the spirit of the event such as bluegrass, Americana, folk or acoustic roots music

• Each band will perform 2 songs

• Total performance time may not exceed 10 minutes

• Songs may be original or cover songs and must be family friendly

• Bands will be judged on: Musicianship, vocal quality, stage presence, audience engagement, overall performance

• One prize of $500 awarded to the 1st place band

Vocal Contest

• Open to solo singers or duets of all ages

• Each contestant may perform one song, not to exceed 5 minutes

• Singers may perform with one instrument accompaniment, instrumental track, or a cappella

• Performance will be judge on vocal ability, song interpretation, stage presence, and audience connection

• One 1st place prize of $225 will be awarded

General Info

• Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. You may show up on the day of the event and register as well. Visit the home page and scroll down to the the registration form.

• By participating, contestants agree that photos or video may be used for event promotion

• Absolutely NO dogs allowed. The exception of course are true service dogs.

• Food and non alcoholic beverages sold by the RVFD and Women's Auxiliary, and you may bring your own cooler.
